Dept.of Foreign Affairs, Phil.Consulate General’s Office Calgary to repatriate remains of Filipino who drowned after heroically saving Kababayan
Calgary — The remains of Jefferson Cruz, the 42-year-old overseas Filipino worker who drowned in Lake Snye, Fort McMurray, Alberta on 23 August 2019 after saving the life of his kababayan, will be repatriated to the Philippines.
Upon hearing the news about the death of Mr. Cruz, Consul General Zaldy Patron of the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary immediately contacted the Canadian authorities to check the whereabouts of the remains. He also met with Mr. Cruz’s brother, who is also based in Fort MacMurray, in Edmonton, Alberta to assist the family in the repatriation of the remains to the Philippines.
Upon the recommendation of the PCG, the Department of Foreign Affairs will pay for the repatriation of Mr. Cruz’s remains and it will also extend financial assistance to the surviving wife and son of the late Mr. Cruz.(PCG Calgary)
