MANILA (Philippines News Agency) — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI) on Tuesday said it is ready to work with newly appointed Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Esther Margaux ‘Mocha’ Uson.

CBCP-ECMI chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos noted that they are looking forward to work with the new government official for the benefit of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Taking her mandate for the services and for protection of our OFWs, she will find us very reliable partners. For the good of OFWs, we welcome her and let us work together, honestly and harmoniously, for them,” Santos said in an interview.

The Bataan prelate added that they are praying for her to be good in her new job.

“With her second chance with government office it is our prayer and hope she would do better, always taking in consideration the welfare and wellbeing of our OFWs, sacrificing personal or political party’s interest and setting aside self-aggrandizement,” he said.

Santos reiterated the Commission’s partnership with government agencies that are looking after the welfare of Filipinos working abroad.

“We at CBCP-ECMI is effective and transparent collaborator with the programs and directives of DOLE, OWWA and POEA,” he said.

“We are very supportive to them and they are very cooperative with us. We find them very valuable and very helpful in promoting the rights and dignity of our OFWs,” the CBCP-ECMI head added.

On Monday, Malacañang announced the appointment of Uson, who was a nominee of the AA-Kasosyo party-list during the May 2019 elections.

The group failed to secure a seat in the last polls.

Uson also served as former Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office. (PNA)
