The Zumbathon for Mindanao Earthquake victims has raised a net amount of $3,202.25.
This was announced on FB by Marievyn Astillo of the Dabawenyos Cultural Assistance Society (DCAS) who led a team of Zumba instructors for the fund-raising, Sunday, December 1, at the Game Time Indoor Playground in Edmonton.
“We will try our best to update you as Dabawenyos will initiate our project/s for the affected families or identified recipients in Mindanao, Philippines,” Astillo said.
The net amount raised will used to purchase makeshift tents, hygiene kits, rice and canned goods.
Mindanao, one of the three major islands in the Philippines, was hit with an earthquake last October 16 with a magnitude of 6.3 that killed seven and injured 215.
The second earthquake followed on October 29 with a magnitude of 6.6 and the third on October 31 with a magnitude of 6.5. Twenty-one people have died and 424 injured.
Various local government units and non-government organizations in the Philippines have mobilized its resources to answer to the needs of the victims. (pinoy edmonton news service)
