City of Edmonton Interim City Manager responds to provincial COVID restrictions
This statement can be attributed to Adam Laughlin, Interim City Manager, City of Edmonton
The rising number of COVID cases across Edmonton, the surrounding region, and across Alberta continues to be concerning. The recent announcements on new restrictions by the province are welcome.
The City of Edmonton will follow the restrictions laid out by the province. Starting tomorrow, the City will cancel all programmed fitness classes and group recreation bookings for the next two weeks. Recreation centres will remain open for individual fitness activities.
In addition, City of Edmonton enforcement officers will help enforce the new restrictions at pubs and bars alongside the Public Safety Compliance Team (PSCT).
The announcement from Premier Kenney today is relatively fresh and there are a number of details that still need to be clarified. Updated information will be available on edmonton.ca as we understand more about how these restrictions affect City services.
The number of COVID cases is rising and we must do all we can to prevent the virus from spreading. While restrictions continue to change, there are several things that remain true about what Edmontonians can do to stay safe. Above all else, wash your hands, wear a face covering or mask, limit gatherings and keep physically distant from others outside your household.
