Upcoming LRT service changes for January 8-10
Construction work on the north and south ends of Edmonton’s LRT system to help improve the LRT system moving forward will require short-term service changes from January 8-10.
From January 8-10, NAIT Station will be closed and Metro Line trains will start/end at Kingsway/RAH Station to accommodate work on the alternative signalling system north of Kingsway/RAH Station. Transit customers can use bus routes 8 or 9 to travel between Kingsway/RAH and NAIT.
From 5 a.m. to noon on January 10, LRT crews will be working north of Southgate Station to complete tests on the jump frog installed in October. A jump frog is a piece of track infrastructure that allows trains travelling straight over this junction (not switching tracks) to make less noise and reduce wear on track parts. This means quieter service for customers, less noise for surrounding neighbourhoods and lower maintenance costs. During this time, Capital Line trains will not run between Century Park and South Campus stations, but will run between South Campus and Clareview stations. Buses will replace LRT between Century Park and South Campus and will run every 8 minutes.
After work near Southgate is complete, Capital Line trains will resume regular service between Century Park and Clareview. Metro Line trains are not impacted by this work and will run between Health Sciences/Jubilee and Kingsway/RAH all day on January 10.(pr)
