70% of eligible Albertans now fully vaccinated

News Release
70% of eligible Albertans now fully vaccinated

More than 2.6 million Albertans are now fully immunized against COVID-19 after receiving two vaccine doses.
As of Sept. 2, 70 per cent of eligible Albertans have received both of their doses of vaccine through Alberta Health Services, community pharmacies and physician offices.
A total of 78.2 per cent of eligible Albertans have received at least one dose.
All Albertans are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated with two vaccine doses as soon as possible to protect themselves, their loved ones and their communities.
“The best way to protect all Albertans from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. It is up to each and every one of us to do all we can to prevent the spread of this virus. Getting vaccinated with two doses is not only the right thing to do, but it protects the people, livelihoods and communities we care about.”
Jason Kenney, Premier
“Vaccines take significant pressure off of our health system by reducing the severity of symptoms for the vast majority of people who are fully immunized. The fewer COVID-19 cases we have in hospital, the more Alberta’s medical teams can attend to other health-care needs that continue to affect Albertans.”
Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health
“Data shows us that the majority of COVID-19 cases in our hospitals and ICUs are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. Second doses are a critical step in getting the best protection available to you. I continue to encourage Albertans to get their full series of vaccine.”
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health
Bookings for first and second doses are available provincewide. Albertans can book appointments by visiting alberta.ca/vaccine. First-dose walk-in clinics are available at multiple locations.
All Albertans age 18 and over are eligible to enter the Open for Summer Lottery once they’ve received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Registration for the final $1-million draw closes on Sept. 23.
Albertans with two doses can also register for the separate Outdoor Adventure Vaccine Lottery, which features prizes for hunting, fishing and wilderness experiences.
