Alberta receives 5,000 doses of Janssen vaccine

News Release

Alberta receives 5,000 doses of Janssen vaccine

Albertans aged 18 and older now have an additional COVID-19 vaccine option.

Starting Nov. 12, Albertans 18 years and older can book appointments to receive the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine by calling 811. Due to limited supply, the Janssen vaccine will only be administered at Alberta Health Services (AHS) clinics in select locations across the province.

“We have heard that some Albertans would consider getting protected if the Janssen vaccine was made available. We have made doses available and now we need these Albertans to follow through and get vaccinated. These doses are a start; we will continue advocating for more Janssen vaccine as we do everything we can to get more Albertans vaccinated.”Jason Kenney, Premier

“Having the Janssen vaccine available in the province now gives Albertans more choice when it comes to getting protected against COVID-19. Every dose administered not only protects individuals but also our communities at large and the capacity of our health-care system.”Jason Copping, Minister of Health

“Whichever COVID-19 vaccine you receive, it’s important to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible and continue following the current public health measures to protect yourself and others.”Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health

The Janssen vaccine is currently a single-dose viral vector vaccine that works similarly to the AstraZeneca vaccine.
