MANILA – Support poured in for presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo in recent sports events.

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) basketball tournament enjoined spectators to wear pink, the color associated with Robredo’s camp, during a matchday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on April 12 dubbed “UAAPink”.

“AngAtleta” similarly drew volleyball fans at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City this May, with popular players Alyssa Valdez, Kat Tolentino, Carmela Tunay, and Kathy Bersola playing in exhibition matches.

“As athletes, we should advocate for change and to really just show the country that we do have a voice. And if I have that voice, of course, as a woman, I’m gonna use that,” Tolentino said in an interview.

Valdez also joins house-to-house campaigns.

Philippine Basketball Association coach Yeng Guiao of NLEX, a former Pampanga vice governor and congressman, is likewise a vocal Robredo supporter, similarly going on house-to-house campaigns.

Nakakataba ng puso na napakarami na iba’t-ibang grupo na iba’t-iba rin ang pinanggalingan, karamihan sa kanila magkakalaban, pero dahil sa pagmamahal sa bayan ay nagdesisyon na magkaisa (It’s heartwarming that groups from different walks of life, some of them rivals, have decided to unite love for the love of country),” Robredo said during a campaign rally in Calamba City, Laguna on April 30. (PNA)
