City Council of Edmonton passes 2023 tax bylaw

Today, City Council passed the 2023 tax bylaw after approving the spring operating budget adjustment last week. The municipal property tax increase for 2023 was maintained at 4.96 per cent.

Tax notices will be mailed to property owners on May 23. The 4.96 per cent municipal tax increase will affect property owners differently, depending on how their property’s assessed value compares to the market. While property assessment changes affect individual property tax bills, they do not affect the total tax revenue collected by the City, which was set in the budget approved by City Council. Nearly $1.9 billion in tax dollars will be collected, and this money will help to fund 70 City programs and services Edmontonians use every day.

The average Edmonton household will pay approximately $725 in municipal taxes in 2023 for every $100,000 of assessed home value, an increase of $34 from 2022. Property taxes will be due on June 30.
