Know Before You Go: Traffic Disruptions – July 17 to July 23

The 2026 construction season in Edmonton is busy, so we don’t want to catch you by surprise. The City is providing relevant and timely information via social media, a weekly public service announcement detailing new traffic disruptions and the Traffic Disruptions Map so you can choose the best route.

Once completed, these transformational transportation projects will provide significant benefits to residents, allowing all Edmontonians to better move through the city, walking, rolling, driving or taking transit.

For more information or specific project details, visit edmonton.ca and search by project name or contact 311.

Please note that construction schedules are subject to change based on several factors, including weather, underground conditions and other project dependencies. The City does its best to be accurate with timing, and your patience is appreciated if schedules shift.

Traffic impacts
Low Level Bridges
From July 17 to 20, crews will remove and restore sections of the temporary paved detour near the Low Level Bridge, including portions of the bridge approaches, Connors Road, Scona Road, Grierson Hill and McDougall Hill Road.
Please plan for delays and watch for the following traffic impacts:
Friday, July 17, at 8 p.m. to Monday, July 20, at 6 a.m.: Full closures of the northbound and southbound Low Level Bridges, including portions of Connors Road and Scona Road approaching the bridges.
Lane closures on approaching roads, including portions of 98 Avenue, the Grierson Hill access ramp and the cloverleaf connections between Grierson Hill and McDougall Hill Road.
The recommended detour for northbound and southbound traffic is the James MacDonald Bridge.
Some ETS bus routes will be detoured. For more information on routes and schedules, visit edmonton.ca/TransitAlerts.
High Level Bridge
The east sidewalk remains closed on the southeast side of the High Level Bridge. The City will reopen the east staircase to the River Valley and Kinsmen Park on Friday, July 17.
Beginning July 20, the west sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists while EPCOR and the City repair damaged drainage infrastructure and address slope erosion caused by recent rainfall.
During this closure, pedestrians can use the east sidewalk to the staircase, access the river valley trail system or cross to the west side using the available stair connections to 109 Street.
Yellowhead Trail between 127 Street and St. Albert Trail
Recent rainfall events have caused localized flooding along sections of Yellowhead Trail between St. Albert Trail and 97 Street. After crews cleared the water from these flood sites, emergency repairs were identified in the westbound lanes under the St. Albert Trail overpass. EPCOR and City crews are working 24 hours a day to complete these repairs and reopen the roadway before the end of the weekend.
While these repairs are underway, Yellowhead Trail westbound remains closed between St. Albert Trail and 97 Street until further notice. Yellowhead Trail eastbound has been successfully re-opened to traffic with two lanes. Drivers are advised to avoid the area, use alternate routes, allow additional travel time and follow posted signs and directions from emergency personnel.
Valley Line West LRT
On or around July 20, roadwork will resume at the southwest corner of the Stony Plain Road and 149 Street intersection. Westbound left turns from Stony Plain Road will be reduced to one lane and eastbound right turns onto 149 Street will be banned. Southbound traffic on 149 Street north of Stony Plain Road will be reduced to one lane. Work is expected to last two weeks.
On or around July 20, roadwork will resume at the southeast corner of the Stony Plain Road and 149 Street intersection. The northbound right turn from Stony Plain Road onto 149 Street will be closed. Right turns will be maintained from the outside through lane on 149 Street. Access to and from Summit Drive will also close. This work is expected to last two weeks.
On or around July 20, vehicle access across Stony Plain Road at Sylvancroft Lane and 127 Street is scheduled to close. Vehicle access across Stony Plain Road will be maintained at 126 Street and left turns will be replaced with jughandle turns at 126 Street, 127 Street and 131 Street. A jughandle turn involves making three right turns around a nearby intersection rather than one left turn. The work is expected to last two months.
On or around July 21, track installation is scheduled to begin on the south side of 87 Avenue at 182 Street. Access to and from 87 Avenue from the south side of 182 Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily and is expected to last one week.
