Extreme heat response to be lifted on Sunday, July 19


With weather conditions improving, the City of Edmonton will deactivate its extreme heat response on Sunday, July 19 at 9 a.m.

The extreme heat response was activated on July 16. The response is activated when daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 29 C or higher for at least 3 days in a row.

Water stations will remain open until September 30, 2026. A complete list of water stations is available here.

Open City facilities, including libraries, pools and recreation centres remain available throughout the summer for anyone needing relief from the heat. Free bottled water and N95 masks are also available for pickup at City facilities throughout the summer. Visit edmonton.ca/ExtremeWeather for a complete list of locations.

If you are concerned about someone outside in the heat, please call:
211 and press 3 for the 24/7 Crisis Diversion team. They can assist with individuals who may be in distress and provide transportation to social service agencies.
911 if someone is in serious distress or in cases of emergency.

Sector Emergency Response
The City’s extreme weather response supplements existing measures implemented by the Sector Emergency Response group, a collaboration of more than 25 agencies working to keep Edmonton’s most vulnerable people safe during adverse weather conditions.

The extreme weather response implements City Policy C620 to ensure the
health and safety of all Edmontonians, particularly those vulnerable to severe weather.
