Know Before You Go: Traffic Disruptions – July 31 to August 6


The 2026 construction season is well underway across Edmonton. To help travellers plan their routes, the City is sharing timely information through social media and the Traffic Disruptions Map.

Once complete, these transportation projects will improve how people move through the city, whether walking, rolling, driving or taking transit.

Please note, construction schedules may change due to weather, underground conditions and other project dependencies. The City works to provide the most accurate timing available and appreciates everyone’s patience should schedules change.

Traffic impacts
112 Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation
To safely complete bridge jacking, a technique used to support the bridge while crews work on specific components, the 112 Avenue Bridge will be closed to traffic on:
August 3, 10 p.m. to August 4, 6 a.m.
August 4, 10 p.m. to August 5, 6 a.m.
James MacDonald Bridge
James MacDonald Bridge will be reduced to two lanes each direction during off-peak hours from August 4 to 28 for bridge repair and maintenance.
As a result of nearby lane reductions on 98 Avenue, commuters are encouraged to give themselves extra time in this area.
Connors Road
Closures are in effect for Connors Road southbound under the Connors Road northbound overpass due to debris and flooding.
Imagine Jasper Avenue
Starting August 1, traffic on Jasper Avenue between 119 Street and 121 Street will be redirected to the new road surface on the north side of the avenue as work begins on the south side. This traffic shift will take place overnight on July 31. On August 6, 118 Street will reopen to traffic and 119 Street will close. Please follow signage in the area.
Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion
Starting the week of August 3, 107 Street at Yellowhead Trail will reopen for northbound to eastbound traffic.
Capital Line South
On or around August 1, weather permitting, 12 Avenue will fully reopen west of 111 Street to all modes of travel. Ledcor, the Design-Build contractor, has completed the underground, utility, road and track work at the intersection.
Valley Line West LRT
Track and rail installation on the south side of 87 Avenue at 182 Street, originally scheduled to begin at the end of June, has been rescheduled to begin on or around August 4.
During this work, 87 Avenue will be closed from the south side of 182 Street overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This closure is expected to remain in place for one week.
On or around August 6, road construction is scheduled to resume on the south side of 87 Avenue near 175 Street. Access to and from 87 Avenue will be closed from the south side of 175 Street. This phase of work is expected to take approximately two months, but construction in the area will continue until the end of 2026.
On or around August 6, drainage and road work at the intersection of 170 Street and 87 Avenue will shift to the northwest corner of the intersection. Two lanes of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained. 87 Avenue will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction. This phase of work is expected to take two months, but construction at this intersection will continue until the end of 2026.
Persistent heavy rainfall earlier this week caused asphalt to heave on 104 Avenue between 118 Street and 117 Street, resulting in a temporary eastbound lane closure. The lane will remain closed until a detailed site inspection is complete and repairs have been made. The duration of the closure will depend on weather conditions and the findings of the site inspection.
Rainfall impacts on construction
Edmonton has a relatively short construction season, and weather conditions such as prolonged rainfall can affect certain construction activities. Some work, including excavation, paving, concrete placement and earthworks, may need to be postponed until site conditions improve. The City continues to monitor conditions and work with contractors to minimize disruptions and keep projects moving forward safely and efficiently.
