UCP government must stop denying Albertans health care, says NDP

UCP government must stop denying Albertans health care

The UCP government lied to Albertans in the last election. They are now asking people to bring their credit cards to see a doctor.

“They didn’t campaign on letting health care cards expire and making Albertans pay to see a doctor,” said Honourable Sarah Hoffman, Shadow Minister for Hospital and Surgical Facilities. “But that’s exactly what’s happening. It’s clear they are slowly cutting people off care and pushing American style health care where the patient pays.”

“They are intentionally creating barriers to care,” added Shadow Minister for Primary and Preventative Health Services, Sharif Haji. “Danielle Smith has repeatedly promised Albertans will not have to pay to see a doctor, but now the UCP is forcing Albertans to pay up or go away.”

Alberta’s New Democrats will release our plan to restore public health care in Alberta in the coming weeks, a plan we are ready to campaign on.

“We challenge the UCP to run on what it’s doing,” concluded Hoffman. “Campaign on denying Albertans health care and making them pay to see a doctor. Not more fake health-care guarantees.”
