Gearing up for BMX

Canada’s best BMX riders are gearing up to race as the 2026 Canadian BMX Championships return to St. Albert Aug. 29-30.

Alberta’s government is providing more than $54,000 in funding through the Major Sport Events grant program to support the 2026 Canadian BMX Championships. The competition will bring together athletes from across the country as they race for Canadian championship jerseys and Canada Cup Series titles. St. Albert is home to the only Supercross BMX track in the province and will host the competition over two days.

The Major Sport Events grant program provides financial assistance to support organizations and communities across the province in planning and hosting national and international competitions that attract visitors, support youth sport development and strengthen local sport organizations in Alberta.

Organized by the St. Albert BMX Association, the event is expected to welcome more than 860 participants, including 760 athletes, coaches and technical officials and 100 volunteers. More than 5,000 spectators from across Canada are expected to attend, contributing an estimated $100,000 in economic activity to local businesses, hotels and restaurants.

Among the competitors are some of Alberta’s most accomplished BMX athletes, including Red Deer’s Molly Simpson, an eight-time Canadian national champion and Olympian and Calgary’s Logan Lee, the reigning world champion in her age category. The event will showcase elite racing while creating opportunities for Alberta athletes to compete on home soil against the nation’s best.
