Statement
Kyle Kasawski, Shadow Minister of Affordability and Utilities, issued the following statement:
“Albertans are again facing a surge in fuel prices and Danielle Smith and the UCP are refusing to provide immediate relief by suspending the provincial gas tax.
“Overnight, gas prices climbed above $1.80 per litre and diesel prices are well over $2.30 per litre in some communities. These spikes are adding even more pressure to family budgets at a time when Albertans are already struggling with the rising cost of groceries, housing, and other essentials.
“Higher fuel costs don’t just hurt drivers – they’re bad for business. They drive up costs across the economy, impacting farmers, truckers, construction companies, and delivery services.
“The Alberta NDP has been calling on the UCP for months to follow their own legislation and suspend the provincial gas tax. Instead, Danielle Smith and the UCP offered a one-time $100 cheque that most Albertans never received.
“Albertans deserve so much better. They deserve a government that cares about the challenges they’re facing and takes real action to make life more affordable. The Alberta NDP is that government.”
