Join 511 Alberta at Show off the Plow

News Release

Join 511 Alberta at Show off the Plow

Come down to the Silver Skate Festival in Edmonton’s William Hawrelak Park on February 14 and 15 to learn more about winter highway maintenance and 511 Alberta.

Each year, Alberta Transportation partners with the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association to educate Albertans about safe winter driving through the Safer Winter Highways campaign.

As part of this campaign, two snowplows from Carmacks and Lafarge will be at the Silver Skate Festival to ‘Show off the Plow’ to help educate attendees about the challenges contractors face in the course of their duties. Staff from 511 Alberta will also be on hand to explain winter highway maintenance and road reporting.

“Our highway contractors have the skills and equipment to keep our roads in good working condition. However, weather in Alberta can change in a heartbeat, which is why drivers should use 511 Alberta to stay abreast of the most current road conditions.”

Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Transportation

“It’s the job of snowplow operators to clear our provincial highways of ice and snow. Alberta motorists are also part of the safety equation. Drivers are urged to drive to the road conditions and give operators time and space to do their work.”

Graeme Douglas, Carmacks Enterprises
