Family Day fun in Edmonton

Family-focussed fun is happening in Edmonton this Family Day, including arts and crafts, music, skating, live performances and more.

Family Day at City Hall
Celebrate Family Day at City Hall with a variety of family-friendly entertainment and activities, including a performance by the Alberta Musical Theatre Company, magic acts, music by Blaze ‘n’ Day, kids’ crafts and roving characters. City Hall tours will be available.

Step outside onto the City Hall Plaza to roast marshmallows over an open fire, and take a spin on the ice rink. Free skate and helmet rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Food trucks will be on site for those wishing to purchase snacks.

Time: Noon to 4 p.m.
Location: City Hall and City Hall Plaza, 1 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Admission: Free

Please note: Skating may be cancelled in the event of poor ice conditions or severe weather. Be sure to check the online notifications or call 311 for current ice surface conditions.

Family Day Festivities at the Reuse Centre
Celebrate Family Day at the Reuse Centre. Enjoy free family-friendly drop-in activities and treats including DIY wind chimes and wind socks, glitter tattoos from The Balloon Fairies, custom envelope-making from the Edmonton Calligraphic Society, gift basket draws and more. Plus, shop the store for items for the whole family, only $5 for up to 25 kilograms.

Time: Noon to 3 p.m.
Location: 6835 83 Street
Admission: Free activities, $5 for purchases up to 25 kilograms

Recreation Centres
Looking to get active indoors this Family Day? From splashy aquatic centres to drop-in gym opportunities, there’s always something happening at a City of Edmonton recreation centre near you. Visit MoveLearnPlay.edmonton.ca or a facility web page for locations, hours and admission prices.

Outdoor Ice Rinks
Getting active is fun and easy this Family Day. Free skating is available at City of Edmonton outdoor ice surfaces in Hawrelak, Jackie Parker, Victoria, Rundle and Castle Downs parks and outdoors at The Meadows Community Recreation Centre. Take a twirl on the Iceway skating trails, located next to the Victoria Park Oval and in Rundle Park.

Weather conditions apply. Be sure to check the online notifications or call 311 for current ice surface and toboggan hill conditions before heading out.

Free Shuttle Service to Victoria Park Oval and Iceway
Hop on and head down for a skate at the Victoria Iceway or Victoria Park Skating Oval this Family Day weekend. Use the free Edmonton Transit Service shuttle, courtesy of WinterCity Edmonton.

Saturday, February 15 (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Monday, February 17 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Shuttle Stops
The service will run from downtown to Victoria Park, stopping every 30 minutes at:
Victoria Park (12030 River Valley Road)
RE/MAX Field Temporary Stop (Rossdale Road & 96 Avenue northbound)
Stop #1620 (Jasper Avenue/101 Street westbound, close to Bay/Enterprise Square LRT)
Stop #1619 (Jasper Avenue & 107 Street westbound, close to Corona LRT)
Watch for the “WinterCity Edmonton Victoria Park Shuttle Stop” signs. Please cover your skate blades or have your skates in a bag before boarding the bus. A limited number of cloth bags will be available on the bus.

Take ETS to your Family Day destination
Edmonton Transit Service will run on regular Saturday schedules, with Route 580 operating on its regular weekday schedule. Regular fares apply.
Enjoy unlimited all-day travel and transfers for up to five people (maximum two adults over 24 years old) with an ETS Family/Day Pass for $10. Children 12 and under can also ride free with a fare-paying customer. Family/Day passes can be purchased through ETS sales outlets, ETS Online Store or from fare vending machines.
