Recreation facilities and amenities reopening this week

The City of Edmonton continues reopening facilities and amenities this week under Stage 2 of the Government of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan, which allows the general public to participate in individual and group activities.

Facility reopenings are occuring in phases to ensure appropriate staffing is in place to operate buildings, ensure staff are trained on safety measures and that facilities are ready for public use.

The following schedule of facility and amenity openings for the week of June 21 to June 26 is subject to change depending on the availability of staff resources or provincial requirements:
Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre aquatic centre (June 21)
Clareview Community Recreation Centre aquatic centre (June 21)
Fred Broadstock Outdoor Pool (June 22)
Mill Woods Recreation Centre Aquatic and Fitness Centre (June 25)
Bonnie Doon Leisure Centre (June 25)
Jasper Place Leisure Centre (June 26)

The reopening of these facilities and amenities is in addition to fitness centres and gyms in five recreation centres that reopened on June 10 and outdoor pools that were announced to open last week.

All virtual programming and outdoor fitness classes continue. Details on those programs are available on MoveLearnPlay.

The City of Edmonton will be recruiting a number of new positions to support the opening and operations of recreation centres. Upcoming jobs details will be available on edmonton.ca/jobs.

Measures remain in place to ensure public health guidelines are followed. These include:
Practicing regular hand hygiene and staying home if experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.
Masks or face coverings are mandatory when inside a City recreation centre but may be removed when engaged in physical activity, including swimming.
For outdoor pools, face coverings are required for indoor amenities but remain optional for outdoor areas. Two-metre physical distancing is also required outdoors
All facilities will be limited to 33 per cent of fire code capacity. Each facility has a different fire code limit based on its size.
Maintaining three-metre distance from others while inside of recreation facilities.
No gatherings within common areas.
We will return to reserved time slots to access facilities. Reserve a time slot at MoveLearnPlay.edmonton.ca.
Equipment in fitness centres will be set three metres apart.
Regular cleanings will take place throughout the day and deep cleanings in the evenings.
