ALBERTA NDP CALLS FOR UCP TO CANCEL AISH TO ADAP TRANSITION
EDMONTON – Today marks one month until the planned transition from AISH to ADAP, a change that is already causing fear and uncertainty for people with disabilities across Alberta. This transition will result in reduced financial supports, while placing new expectations on people with disabilities to work – even when many are unable to do so.
That’s why today, Alberta’s NDP is calling for the government to reverse the transition and stop these harmful cuts.
“There is still time for this UCP government to do the right thing,” said Marie Renaud, Alberta NDP Shadow Minister for Community and Social Services. “We’ve said this before, and I will say it again: these cuts are cruel, they are unnecessary, and they will hurt people.”
Albertans with disabilities are receiving letters confirming their transition from AISH to ADAP. Advocates say they are hearing daily from individuals who are overwhelmed, afraid, and frustrated.
“We’re seeing the real impact already,” said Renaud. “People are reaching out because they’re terrified and angry. They don’t know how they’re going to make ends meet.”
“People with disabilities deserve stability, dignity, and respect – not uncertainty and fear.”

WHY THIS MATTERS
The AISH to ADAP transition is happening in just one month, creating uncertainty and fear for people who rely on stable, predictable supports to survive.
This transition is cruel and unnecessary – it reduces financial supports and adds unrealistic expectations by pushing people with disabilities toward work, even when many are not able to.
The government still has time to do the right thing – Alberta’s NDP is calling for them to stop the transition and listen to people with disabilities about what they actually need.
