97 Street reopens following installation of Chinatown Gate’s steel structure
Following the successful installation of the overhead steel structure for the Chinatown Gate, 97 Street has reopened to traffic between Jasper Avenue and Okîsikow (Angel) Way (101A Avenue) after a two-week full closure.
The roadway will remain fully open to traffic for approximately one week. Beginning on or around September 15, the same section of 97 Street will close overnight until approximately September 28. The closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. seven days a week to allow crews to install scaffolding and hoarding.
Drivers are encouraged to detour using 100 Street or 95 Street via Jasper Avenue or 103A Avenue.
Vehicle access will be maintained on 97 Street between 102A Avenue and Okîsikow (Angel) Way, including access to the Canada Place parkade on the west side of 97 Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of 97 Street.
Following the two weeks of overnight closures, one northbound lane on 97 Street will be closed during daytime, off-peak hours from approximately September 29 to October 19 for material delivery.

Construction of the new Chinatown Gate began in March and is expected to be completed in 2027.
