NDP says Premier Smith needs to take action on her Red Deer `separatist’ MLA

DANIELLE SMITH NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION ON HER RED DEER SEPARATIST MLA

Red Deer – As politicians of all stripes come together against Donald Trump, and Danielle Smith claims to be pro-Canada, Jason Stephan, the UCP MLA for Red Deer-South, is still a separatist.

Last week, Stephan released yet another article that proves he’d rather destroy Canada than protect our country and solve the problems Albertans face every day.

“Danielle Smith has said her caucus will be fighting for Canada, but she has not lifted a finger to help the remain cause, preferring to party in Nashville rather than campaign for the country,” said Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi. “She has no control over her separatist party nor her separatist caucus. This is the second time Jason Stephan has encouraged people to vote for the leave option, and the second time he’s faced no consequences. That tells Albertans exactly where she and the UCP stand.”

Alberta’s NDP has been clear: we are on Team Canada. We will support our country through Donald Trump’s trade war. People in Red Deer deserve leaders focused on fixing health care, making life more affordable, and strengthening public education, not wasting tax dollars pushing a costly separation referendum.

Michelle Baer, Alberta NDP Candidate for Red Deer-South, is proudly Canadian and focused on the issues that matter most to Red Deer families.

“People in Red Deer want an MLA who is fighting to make their lives better,” said Baer. “Instead, Jason Stephan is focused on dividing Albertans and weakening our nation, while Trump threatens our sovereignty. Red Deer didn’t vote for a separatist, and we deserve so much better.”

On October 6, join Alberta’s New Democrats Caucus as we Rally the Vote for Canada in Red Deer.

“Let’s send Jason Stephan and Danielle Smith a message,” said Nenshi. “Red Deer is proudly Canadian. Alberta is proudly Canadian. And we’re not interested in the UCP’s separatist agenda.”
